Faith & Commitment Can Overcome Uncertainty
Dear Friends in Christ,
Greetings from your Support Committee in the name of Jesus Christ! We hope this letter finds you well and basking in God’s grace.
The year of 2020 will long be remembered for countless reasons but one of the most unforgettable moments will no doubt involve the COVID-19 pandemic. Since mid-March, congregational life has taken on new, unexpected forms. We won’t know for some time the long-term effects of how church moving forward will change for good. One important aspect of the disruption of routine life in a church involves financial stewardship, and how we retain the tithes and offerings of our people. With the church closure and minimal attendance since reopening, our offerings have suffered. Some members have chosen not to return to worship and a few have left the church altogether. Even with these losses, our 2020 budget has held steady. However, we are entering uncertain times as far as church finances are concerned.
We do not know what 2021 will bring, but we can all agree that we want to experience it together, as a church family. That will depend on our members, church committees and church finances. We know we will need to tighten our belts in order to continue as a church. We are asking that the remaining members, whether attending services at this time or not, continue to support the church in the manner they have been in the past. We will not be able to make up for the pledges we have lost, however every extra dollar helps our church continue to operate and to praise the glory of God. Please prayerfully consider matching or increasing your 2020 pledge.
Due to the current format of our worship services, we will not be having Moments for Stewardship this year. Commitment Sunday will be on October 18. Please complete and turn in the attached Estimate of Giving pledge card so that we can begin working on the 2021 financial budget. This form can be placed in the offering plate on Commitment Sunday or can be mailed to the church.
God has called us all to be stewards for the benefit of His work. We hope that you will prayerfully consider your commitment for the upcoming year and reflect on all of the good that can be done in the name of Jesus Christ thanks to your generosity. We need to look to the future of Wickliffe Presbyterian Church and decide how we can remain a church family for years to come.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11
